I've been wanting to write this for a while. A proper, honest, no-fluff post about who I am, how I run Milis, and the things that make this little candle business what it is.
Some of it might surprise you. Some of it you might already know. But all of it is true and all of it is something I'm genuinely proud of.
So here goes.
1. I hand pour, polish, and pack every single order myself.
Every candle that leaves Milis has been made and packed by my own hands. That means turnaround time is a little slower than a bigger company and I'll never apologise for that. What it also means is that your order has been given real time, real care, and real attention before it reaches you. I think that matters. I hope you do too
2. My candles are about colour as much as scent.
Fragrance is at the heart of everything I do but so is how things look. From the labels to the packaging, I put real thought into making sure every Milis product is something you're proud to have sitting in your home. Beautiful to smell and beautiful to see.
3. I run this business around a very full life.
Two boys. Two dogs. Two turtles. Two cats . A part time (3 days) nursing job. Milis fits around all of it which means that occasionally emails take a little longer than I'd like. I always get back to everyone, and I'm always grateful for the grace people extend when life gets busy. It means more than you know.
4. I only use high quality ingredients and yes, that affects the price.
My candles cost more than a supermarket candle. That's a fact and I stand behind it. Because what goes into them is safe, carefully sourced, and genuinely good quality. When you burn a Milis candle in your home around your family, your pets, your kids I want you to feel completely confident about what's in it.
5. I reuse plastic packaging.
It's a small thing, but it matters to me. Giving packaging a second life instead of sending it straight to landfill is something I'll always choose where I can.
6. I take summers slowly.
The candle world quiets down in summer, and I lean into that. Beach days. Family time. A proper break. I believe in living a balanced life and honestly, a rested maker makes better candles. I come back every autumn ready to pour, create, and show up fully. That balance is part of what makes Milis sustainable for me and for you.
7. I don't always use essential oils and it's not because I don't love them.
Essential oils are wonderful, but they can be volatile and in some cases unsafe for pets, young children, and pregnant women. Because so many of you have dogs, cats, babies, and bumps at home, I choose to work with high quality fragrance oils and perfume oils instead ones that are safe, carefully selected, and still absolutely beautiful.
That's the full picture. No filters, no spin.
If it's not for you, that's completely okay. But if it makes you feel good about choosing Milis then I'm so glad you're here, and I'm so glad you're part of this.
Thank you for reading, for supporting, and for being on this journey with me.
