About Milis & our natural candles

I launched Milis in early March 2020 after 14 months of research and experimentation. Having worked as a nurse in cancer care for over twenty years, creating with my hands is a lovely departure from my day to day. In early 2019, I was out of work with an injury for around six weeks and it was then that I started making little vintage tea cup candles for family and friends. I just loved the ritual of mixing oils & pouring wax. The more I researched, I discovered that many candles contain harmful ingredients. My house would always have a candle burning somewhere in the evening, so this really resonated with me. Getting to know the candle making process better led me to seek out more natural alternatives and the idea for Milis was born. I wanted to provide soy wax candles handmade in Ireland, made with care in my workshop and sourced from local, natural ingredients.

Based on this idea, all of my soy candles and wax melts use natural, recyclable, re-usable or ethically sourced materials and I will always strive to find these as locally as possible. I use 100% natural soy wax, wicks made from cotton and paper and the oils used to produce the scent are a mix of essential oils and high quality fragrance oils which are vegan, paraben and phatalate free. I use glass jars & bottles with a beautiful gold lid which can be easily re-used and they are packaged with recyclable labels and brown card packaging.

It is also important to me to give something back. This was part of the plan for the business from day one and from very early on, it was clear who I would like to support. I still work part time as a cancer nurse with the Irish Cancer Society so for the first 3 years of business I donated 5% of my wholesale profits to them. I will continue to donate and support charities and causes close to my heart.

I hope you enjoy these soy wax candles as much as I loved making them for you!
